Experience the fun of camp in single-day outdoor education events! Susque's summer classes are a great way to get outside and explore in the summer! All programs are taught from a Christian perspective by qualified teachers who seek to inspire youth and families to learn and discover God's truth.

 

Summer SOD Classes 2020

Kayaking 101

 

Grades 5-12+

All levels of experience are welcome on this kayaking trip. An experienced  instructor will accompany the trip to ensure safety and fun! Wear shoes for in the creek and appropriate clothing for the water. Adults attending this class must register.  Youth under 13 must be accompanied by an adult - Limited class size, register soon!

Canoeing on the Creek

 

Grades 2-12+

$20/person

Tubing down the Creek

 

All ages

Come Tube down the creek with us! An experienced instructor will accompany the trip to ensure safety and fun! Wear shoes for in the creek and appropriate clothing for the water, a towel and dry clothing. Adults attending this class must register.  Tubes and transportation back to Susque are provided, with multiple "bailout" options if the trip gets too long.  Youth under 13 must be accompanied by an adult

We will provide a hot dog roast after tubing!

Rattlesnake Hike

 

Grades 4-12+

Take a hike up one of Susque's classic trails to Rattlesnake Point, stopping by SugarSnake Falls on the way up. Rattlesnake point is home to many of its namesake, so it is often a great opportunity to see one of Pennsylvania's two venomous reptiles (from a safe distance!). Hike is approximately 2.5 miles round trips, with sustained steep sections, making it somewhat strenuous. Hike followed by a campfire and snack. Ages 10+. Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by a parent/responsible adult.

Archery 101

Grades 3-12+

$10/person

Learn proper safety and shooting techniques at Susque's archery range. Bows, arrows, targets, instruction, and safety equipment provided by Susque. Sorry, no personal bows permitted. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent/responsible adult. Ages 8+.

Rocketry

Grades 4-12

Model rockets aren't just fun, they are very educational as you discover several important scientific principles that God uses to keep order in His creation. Use different techniques to learn about Newton's Laws of Motion and build your own model rocket to launch!

Climbing Wall

Grades 3-12+

Challenge yourself and tackle your fear of height and learn climbing techniques in safety on Susque's 35 foot tall climbing tower. Our belayers and instructors will keep you safe and teach great techniques to help you reach the top and ring the bell. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Ages 8+.

How to Draw Hemlock Hall

 

Grades 4-12+

Learn how to use the rules of perspective to draw the outside of Susque's Hemlock Hall. All drawing materials will be provided. The class will be held outside in the field in front of Hemlock Hall, so all participants should bring a water bottle, hat, sunscreen, etc. In case of inclement weather, an alternative date will be announced. Ages 10+

Campfire Cookout Class

Learn to cook a variety of foods over the campfire, including Camp Susque's famous "Susque Stew." All ages welcome, those under 16 must be accompanied by a parent/responsible adult.

Evening Lookout Hike

 

All ages

Take an evening hike up one of Susque's classic trails to an incredible overlook that "Hiking the Endless Mountains" author, Jeff Mitchell, described as one of the top-ten vistas in Pennsylvania. Follow it up with a great snack cooked over the fire at main camp. Hike is moderate difficult and approximate 3 miles round-trip. Closed toed and sturdy hiking shoes a must. Ages 8+. All children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent/responsible adult.
