Check back in January to see 2019 Summer Camp Chaplains!
Young Explorers | June 21-24
I am Paul Boxmeyer, and am very excited to serve as Young Explorers Chaplain! I have a passion for camping and spending time outdoors, enjoying God’s creation. My earliest memories are of tent camping with my family for one month every year in the wilderness of Clinton County. Now my own family shares that passion as we enjoy camping every chance we get, and my daughter has enjoyed Camp Susque for the past 6 years as well.
I believed in Jesus when I was 5 years old, began teaching a Sunday School class of special ed students in my teens, and earned a bachelor’s degree in Bible from Philadelphia College of Bible. Now “retired” from a career in Toy Development and Robotics, I enjoy preaching, teaching Junior Church, and other ministries at Emmanuel Community Church of Jersey Shore, PA.
I enjoy building things, and enjoy scuba diving, and combined the two by building several one-man submarines. I also enjoy finding or making little adventures in whatever I do. It is in such times that we can see God’s handiwork in creation and in our lives. I look forward to getting to know the campers this week as we explore God’s creation and God’s Word, and perhaps we will find a few little safari adventures this week!
Boys Week 1 | June 24-July 1
Jim Clemens is the pastor of Port Perry Baptist Church in Port Perry, Ontario. Jim is no stranger to Susque. He has been a camper, counselor, support staff, and a chaplain herebefore. He, his wife Brenda, and their children, Jake, Nick, Charlotte, and Sam, continue to bring a fun Canadian flavor to the Susque community.
Boys Week 2 | July 1 - 8
Mike Miosi is well known around Susque, having served as Executive Director at Susque for nearly 8 years before passing the torch to current Director, Peter Swift. Mike's ministry continued after leaving Susque as he pastors Lycoming Valley Baptist Church in Montoursville, PA. Mike's excitement and passion for ministry, especially in the camp setting, provides him with many great ways to communicate God's love to anyone around him. Mike's family is very familiar with Susque, having lived and worked on site during most of his tenure here. His wife Kristina, daughters Ella and Kayla, and son Josiah were all very involved with Susque's ministry, and we are excited to bring them back, even if only for a week!
Boys Week 3 | July 8-15
I fell in love with Camp Susque in 1975 as a Littleman camper, and I kept coming back - yeah, that makes me old now! Believe it or not, someone allowed me to serve as a counselor and eventually as a program director. Somewhere along that time, God called me to be a pastor, and I absolutely love helping people experience God's grace the way I have.
I went to Grove City College, and then to Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Pittsburgh. Whenever I have free time, I love grabbing some quiet moments reading, tackling another DIY house project, cooking with my wife, tickling my boys (even though they are too old for this now!), and becoming more like Jesus (not necessarily in that order).
I started a hobby/business/ministry that creates Christ-centered devotional books for counselors at Christian camps. I forged this venture with my friend Bill Klees, and we call it Character Building Ministries. Truth be told, most of what we do and most of the philosophy driving Character Building Ministries, we learned at Camp Susque!
Today I'm pastoring at First Evangelical Free Church of McKeesport (that's in the southeast suburbes of Pittsburgh). I love creating contexts for children to have "Aha!" moments, and training parents to raise their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. I have four boys (all adopted from Brazil), and they don't give me a whole love of those beloved quiet moments for reading.
But don't worry, I think I've left most of my camp shenanigans back in the 70's and 80's.
Girls Week 1 | July 15-22
My name is Simon Arscott and I'm from England. I'm the minister of All Nations Church Ilford, London (UK), a church plant of the International Presbyterian Church. I trained for the ministry at Westminster Theological Seminary, Philadelphia, and am very thankful for those 3 years in the USA. I'm also no stranger to Camp Susque, having been a camp counsellor here twice at the start of the 21st century, and visited again during my studies at Westminster.
I've been married to my wife, Becky, for almost 14 years, and we have 4 children, Lydia, Abi, Seth, and Hannah, aged 8-4. I'm thrilled that they will all be able to come to Susque too. As a parent, I’m conscious of the pressure children are under to be conformed to the world, and the importance of the gospel’s call to be transformed by the renewal of the mind. I remain as convinced as ever that only Jesus Christ helps us make sense of ourselves, this world, and God, and I’m looking forward to sharing him with the campers during the week.
Girls Week 2 | July 22-29
Jerry is pastor of Lycoming Centre Presbyterian Church in Cogan Station, PA since 2011. Jerry is originally from Tennessee graduating from Vanderbilt University and moving to PA to attend Westminster Theological Seminary in 2000. After graduation, Jerry met his wife, Hesed, at the Coalition for Christian Outreach new staff training. They were married in June 2006 after 2 years of long distance dating. They have 4 children, JD (7), Zedek (4), Hope (2), and Anastasia (<1).
Jerry is a pastor because he knows that he is a great sinner but Christ is a great Savior. The Grace of Jesus is the only way that he could be a pastor. If there is grace for him, then there is grace for anyone! Jerry sometimes obsesses over football, pens and journals, and tech gadgets. He loves adventures with his family, reading, and creative story telling. He is at Camp Susque to love the campers with Jesus and the truth of His love. We are excited for Jerry to return again to serve at Susque!
Girls Week 3 | July 29-August 5
Chief Les has a long history with Camp Susque. He was a camper at Susque as a kid, came up through the ranks of summer staff, and he now serves on our Board of Directors as well as our Young Explorers Program Director. Les has served as Boys Camp Chaplain, Winter Camps Chaplain, and Family Camps chaplain, but this is a brand new challenge to come to Girls Camp! He is currently the pastor of Faith Baptist Church in Oakville Ontario.
Susque Family Camp | August 6-12
Everyone loves Bill. He has been our Homeschool Family Camp Chaplain for many years, and is back by popular demand! Chief Bill is currently the pastor of Community Alliance Church in Towanda, PA, where he lives with his wife Heather, and their 4 children: Avery, Natalie, Emma, and Alan. Bill has had a long-standing history at Susque as summer staff, our former Program Director, and current Board Member. We look forward to welcoming Bill back to the pulpit.
Classic Family Camp | August 13-19
