Susque's School of Discovery
Field Trips


Are you looking for an exciting way to spend a day or two with your group? Our Field Trip Coordinator will work with you to plan an event specifically designed to your group's interests, age, and experience. From school groups to senior citizen groups, as well as home-schooling associations and youth groups, Camp Susque can help you plan a fun-filled retreat or field trip. Using our numerous resources, Susque offers nature and science programs, crafts, and lots of physical activities like games and hikes. Our programs are tailored to meet Pennsylvania academic standards.

Sample Schedule
9:30 Arrive on Camp
9:45-11:00 First Class
11:00-12:15 Second Class
12:15-12:45 Lunch
12:45-2:00 Third Class
2:00 Closing / Depart
  • Every basic one-day field trip will include: a Nature Exploration Hike, Ecology 101, and one class of your choice.
  • Consider staying overnight in our lodges or rustic cabins. Enjoy several of our classes or blend it with some of your own activities.
  • Customize your field trip with some of our advanced options, or add a bonfire to warm up your day!

Basic Class List

K-3rd Grade Classes

Stream Studies
Learn about pH, erosion, water quality, and the effects of pollution on the water supply as students discover the diversity of life in Lycoming Creek and Camp's own pond.

Geology
Learn the basic rock types and identification through hands on learning as students examine various examples. Students will also discover the roots of the Appalachian mountains as they learn how different rock formations are created.

Nature Crafts
Learn uncommon things about the natural world around us as students work with their hands to create a cool craft that will allow them to take a piece of Susque home.

4-12th Grade Classes

Stream Studies
Learn about pH, erosion, water quality, and the effects of pollution on the water supply as students discover the diversity of life in Lycoming Creek and Camp's own pond.

Animal Tracking
Learn the basics of animal tracking and how to identify that track in the mud behind your house. Look at real life examples and create your own print to take home with you!

PA Forestry
Learn how to identify the trees that make up the Northern Hardwood and Oak-Hickory Forests. Students will also learn how trees have changed the course of history in our area.

Leadership Adventure

Utilize initiatives to learn the importance of leadership and teamwork. As a capstone, bring it all together on Camp Susque's low ropes course.

Advanced Options

Dig deeper into the realms of biology, chemistry, physics, or nature with our advanced field trip options. These classes are generally more specialized than our basic classes. Additional fees may apply. Below is a list of some of these classes:
